Jerry Brown vs Aguirre: Wrath of God

Monday, April 19, 2010

Is California governor candidate Jerry Brown defending the Golden State against a gold-seeking conquistador from the 16th century?  Is Jerry Brown's top Democratic gubernatorial rival Richard Aguirre really the reincarnated Basque conqueror Aguirre --- "the wrath of God"?

Could the return of Aguirre, after 500 years, lead California into an apocalyptic clash of the titans?

Jerry Brown may be running for governor of California, but he's still Attorney General Jerry Brown --- the "top cop" and chief enforcer of law in the Land of Gold.  A legendary political giant, Brown must defend his legacy and power while defending California against madmen.

Democratic gubernatorial challenger Richard Aguirre has been marginalized and publicly painted as a "madman" in his attempt to wrestle the throne of gold away from Brown's grasp.  Has a battle of the ages begun?

Are we in some kind of parallel universe?  Has California finally entered the Twilight Zone?

The 1972 film Aguirre, The Wrath Of God tells the story of the historical Spanish warrior, Aguirre, who leads a group of conquistadores down the Amazon River in South America in search of El Dorado, the City of Gold.  The movie stars actor Klaus Kinski.

Ironically, Kinski resembles 2010 California candidate Richard Aguirre in his portrayal of the historical Aguirre.  Talk about "double vision".  Like, are we to believe that Aguirre finally found the Land of Gold and the city that controls it --- Sacramento, the City of Gold?  Too freaky!

Lately, Richard Aguirre has physically been just feet from Jerry Brown, demanding answers and demanding a debate.  Brown can be seen, on video, running from Aguirre at Brown's Bay Area campaign office and, last Friday, at the California Democratic Convention.  Why?

Is Jerry Brown really afraid of an Aguirre gone wild?  Could Richard Aguirre possibly be Brown's "wrath of God"?

Was a film made at the start of young Jerry Brown's political career a kind of cinematic prophecy of Brown's political "last days"?  Could all of this signal a 2010 battle for the Democratic nomination with conspiracy nuts and screaming prophets on the sidelines?

Only in California!
