California State Military
Aug 1, 2012
California has its very own state military, with a commander-in-chief in control of real California state military troops.
California Governor Jerry Brown is ready to command troops at a moment's notice.
The California State Military Reserve is a trained and organized state military force. It is not the same as the California National Guard, although it can work with the Guard as a "backup" when necessary.
The Governor of California is Commander-In-Chief within the borders of the Golden State. It is all very real --- a real state military defending against real situations.
The CSMR is an all-volunteer defense force who serves locally during times of state emergencies. When called to emergency state active duty, members become employees who are compensated.
Soldiers and airmen in the CSMR are sworn members of the California Military Department.
The California State Military Reserve is exclusively a state military with no federal mission. California's state military is not federalized by the United States, nor are members eligible for federal service.
The CSMR is an official California defense force under the California State Military Reserve Act, and soldiers are not shipped overseas. The California Military and Veteran's Code also provides for a naval branch.
Prior military service is not a requirement for enlistment in the CSMR.
Non-prior service men and women (up to age 60) as well as experienced veterans (up to age 63) are welcomed. A desire to seriously volunteer in a professional and challenging military environment is of utmost importance.
Applicants must be California citizens in good health, and be physically capable of performing as a member of an elite group of well-trained citizen soldiers. All citizens who are not felons and possess a high school diploma are eligible for state service.
The California State Military Reserve has put out the call for experienced professionals in Administration, Medical, Dental, Legal, Linguistics, PR, Marketing, History, Art, Communications, IT, Logistics, Law Enforcement, Chaplaincy and Nursing.
Members attend monthly drills and fulfill a minimum of volunteer service hours per year. There are periodic continuing education requirements, like on-site CSMR Schools, training seminars and online courses.
In the event of a natural disaster, hostile invasion, or terrorist attack on California, many citizens do not want to helplessly watch it on the news. More men and women of the Golden State are now signing-up to become active in California's very own military.
The CSMR is a disciplined, professional and dedicated group of citizen soldiers and airmen who protect Californians against threats within the borders of California. It is one of the highest callings for a Californian.
California citizens with prior military experience can become 'force multipliers'. Those with no military service background can still have the opportunity to be part of a proud military tradition of citizen soldiers that goes back many generations in the Golden State.
This California blog encourages all eligible California men and women to enlist immediately. Visit the California State Military Reserve and join up!
