California Egg Sales Exploding

August 30, 2010

California eggs are safe, healthy, flavorful, and more popular than ever before.  America is now 'scrambling' for California eggs.

As 508-million Iowa eggs are being recalled across the USA, California eggs have been free of Salmonella for more than a decade, thanks to the California Egg Quality Assurance Program.

"The California egg industry has long been focused on food safety which is why we worked with the science community and governmental agencies to develop and implement the Egg Quality Assurance program way back in 1995," said Arnie Riebli, the Association of California Egg Farmers president.

"This is the country's most stringent quality control program designed to ensure the safety and quality of California-produced eggs and its success proves it is," added Riebli.

The CEQAP is known as one of America's strictest egg quality programs, with requirements more extensive than the egg safety regulations recently implemented by the FDA.  The California program requires FIVE salmonella enteridis tests to the FDA's three.

"Consumers can buy California-produced eggs with confidence because the California Egg Quality Assurance Program was designed and implemented  to provide the nation's safest supply of eggs and has been in effect for more than fifteen years," said Richard Matteis of the California Farm Bureau Federation.

The current egg recall in America is causing massive consumer interest in --- and exploding sales of --- California eggs.

Since mid-August, more than one half-billion eggs have been recalled from Iowa farms, and 1,500 people have become sick.  The state of California has not had a case of salmonella from eggs in more than a decade.

Due to California's Egg Quality Assurance Program, consumers everywhere can buy healthy California eggs with confidence.  They may cost a little more but they're worth every penny.  Plus, California eggs actually have FLAVOR!

Californians:  Support our California economy and our hard-working Central Valley egg farmers by purchasing California eggs.  Ask your grocer where their eggs are from.  Support California!

CA Latinos & Chelene Nightingale

August 29, 2010

Chelene Nightingale is steadily attracting California's Latino voters.  The conservative gubernatorial candidate's past Latino affiliations are being remembered now --- with loyalty.

While campaign rival Meg Whitman spends big money to quickly appeal to Latino voters, Chelene Nightingale's past efforts have already created lasting, favorable impressions in Latino hearts throughout the American Southwest.

Nightingale's bond with Latinos is one of mutual love and respect.

Latinos remember that it was Chelene Nightingale who tirelessly fought for the justice of imprisoned border patrol agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Alonso Compean --- and who assisted their family members until their release.

Latinos remember that it was Chelene Nightingale screaming in the streets for the constitutional rights of Deputy Sheriff Gilmer Hernandez.

Latinos remember that it was Chelene Nightingale who reached out to, and was applauded by, the National Latino Peace Officers Association.

Whether fighting for the rights of Latinos in Texas and Washington, DC, demanding justice for legal Latino residents in Arizona, leading marches against Mexican drug cartels near San Diego, or saving farm workers' jobs in the Central Valley, Nightingale has been there for Latinos all along.

Vicky Mendosa, from Ventura County, had this to say about her choice for California governor:

"Chelene has sweated with us, screamed with us, cried with us, and celebrated with us.  She is one of us.  Most Latinos are against the drug cartels illegally crossing into California, and so is Chelene.  Meg Whitman has done nothing for us.  She is just trying to steal votes, and she assumes Latinos are stupid."

A growing number of Latinos are supporting Nightingale for California governor.  I know because their emails reach Californiality daily, in English and Spanish.  It is rare that a candidate for California governor enjoys support from other states as well.

Here's a short email from just this morning:

"Ella tiene el mensaje que la gente necesitan escuchar ahora en California.  Chelene Nightingale es una mujer por nuestros tiempos.  Necesitamos contestas por nuestras preguntas, y ella tiene las contestas correctas y, tambien, tiene una historia con los Latinos," dice Carla Salazar de Pasadena.

"She has the message that the people need to hear now in California.  Chelene Nightingale is a woman for our times.  We need answers for our questions, and she has the correct answers and, also, she has a history with Latinos," says Carla Salazar of Pasadena.

Feeling patronized by Meg Whitman's attempt to buy their votes, and insulted by Jerry Brown's endless mention of meeting Cesar Chavez 35 years ago, California's Latino voters are spreading the word from town to town for la gente to vote for the only candidate for governor who has stood with them ---

La Chelene!

Filipina Justice in California

August 26, 2010

A California state commission has unanimously approved Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's nomination of Tani Cantil-Sakauye as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of California.

The daughter of immigrant farm workers is now firmly in line to become the first Filipina, first Asian, and the first minority to lead the judiciary of America's most populous state.

Cantil-Sakauye, a Sacramento state appellate justice, won a 3-0 vote from the Commission on Judicial Appointments after a grueling San Francisco hearing.

If California voters approve her in November, she will begin a 12-year term on January 3, 2011 to succeed Chief Justice Ronald George, who is retiring.

Cantil-Sakauye has been a judge for ten years, handling trials in Sacramento County Municipal and Superior courts until Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger appointed her to the appeals court five years ago.

She was a county prosecutor for three years and then spent two years on the legal and legislative staffs of Governor George Deukmejian before the governor appointed her to the bench.

Tani Cantil-Sakauye, a moderate 50-year-old Republican, would be part of the first-ever female majority of the California Supreme Court, where three of the seven current justices are female.

A State Bar panel gave Cantil-Sakauye its ultimate rating:

"Extremely Well-Qualified"

Commending her scholarship, her fairness, and her strong work ethic, the commission members deemed her worthy of the position of Chief Justice of California.

The commission members approving her nomination were:
  • Chief Justice Ronald George
  • Attorney General Jerry Brown
  • Appeals Court Justice Joan Dempsey-Klein
Representatives of Filipino groups are excitedly praising Tani Cantil-Sakauye, who would become the first justice of Filipino heritage.

Genevieve Dong, president of the Filipino Bar Association of Northern California, heard Cantil-Sakauye speak to her law school class at UC Davis and found her to be "extremely inspiring".

Cantil-Sakauye, when a teenager, was inspired by another Filipina attorney, the prominent Gloria Ochoa of Sacramento.

My own Filipina friends, here in California, feel very proud that a daughter of Filipinos will be the next Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court.

November 3, 2010 UPDATE:  California voters approved her promotion.

Many call it 'Filipina Justice', though her experience and qualifications benefit all Californians of every ethnicity.

Californiality congratulates Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye.

MABUHAY!

Coast To Coast AM

Coast To Coast AM is a popular late night syndicated radio talk show, based in Los Angeles and broadcast across North America and around the world on the internet.

Created by award-winning broadcaster Art Bell, Coast To Coast AM is distributed by Premiere Radio Networks, a California company based in Sherman Oaks.

The popular four-hour program currently airs seven nights a week on nearly 600 U.S. radio affiliates and on many affiliate stations in Canada.  The main full-time host is George Noory.

Coast To Coast AM covers unusual, bizarre and controversial topics and is full of personal stories from callers.  The program's content varies widely, but most nights are focused on 'alternative' subjects such as:
  • Occult
  • Remote viewing
  • Chemtrails
  • Hauntings
  • Shadow people
  • Psychic predictions
  • Metaphysics
  • New World Order
  • Geopolitics
  • Exopolitics
  • Bible prophecy
  • Conspiracy theories
  • Time travel
  • Mythology
  • Spiritual phenomena
  • UFOs
  • Crop circles
  • Alternative science
  • Aliens
  • Antichrist
  • Cryptozoology
  • Hollow Earth hypothesis
  • Illuminati
  • HAARP
  • Science fiction literature
  • 9-11 theories
  • 2012 phenomenon
The show's opening theme song has always been "The Chase" by Giorgio Moroder from the 1978 movie, Midnight Express.  Since the early 1990s, the show has regularly featured music by the German instrumental new age band, Cusco.

The tone of Coast To Coast AM is open to all paranormal and fringe views, and guests are free to air their views unopposed.

George Noory has stated that the show's policy allows for the highly controversial opinions of regular guests. He said that Coast to Coast AM provides an open forum for eccentric ideas, and that promotion of books, videos, and websites is often a motivation for guests to appear on the show.

Coast To Coast AM does not pay guests for appearances on the show.

George Noory hosts Coast To Coast AM on weeknights from his studios in Los Angeles, California and St. Louis, Missouri.  Noory's style is sympathetic, warm and welcoming.  After taking over as full-time host for founder Art Bell, the popular Noory has made the show his own after seven years in Bell's shadow.

Ian Punnett hosts Coast To Coast AM on Saturday nights from his studio in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Punnett is an ordained minister with a 'hip' style appealing to younger listeners.  His on-air demeanor is accepting yet questioning.  Bumper music during Punnett's broadcast is rock music-oriented.

George Knapp hosts Coast To Coast AM on Sunday nights from his studio in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Knapp is a respected veteran investigative reporter in Nevada, so his broadcasts really 'get to the bottom' of serious subjects.  Knapp's style is dryly-humorous, and he doesn't let guests go without getting the hard answers.

Art Bell serves as a fill-in host, as well as a special events host, from his studio in Manila, Philippines.  Bell, the creator of Coast To Coast AM, is an award-winning radio broadcasting legend.  Bell is a longtime acquaintance, and was inspirational in the creation of Californiality.

The show's regular announcer, since the '90s, is the very deep-voiced Ross Mitchell.  Ross is a broadcaster extraordinaire --- and very mysterious.

Coast To Coast AM's Streamlink service offers live internet feeds of the show by subscription. The program is also broadcast on XM Satellite Radio in the United States.

The show's complete schedule can be found on the official Coast To Coast AM website.

Has New CA Law Got Milk?

August 25, 2010

Should TV commercials promoting California tourism and agricultural products be filmed inside the Golden State?  The California Senate thinks so.

The Senate approved a bill by Senator Alan Lowenthal requiring that taxpayer-funded TV ads to promote the Golden State also help support jobs and the economy in California.

Sounds good so far.

Democratic Assemblyman Ted Lieu of Torrance introduced the bill, AB 1778, after the California Milk Advisory Board filmed part of a "Happy California Cows" TV campaign production in New Zealand --- allegedly.

Senator Lowenthal, a Democrat from Long Beach, carried the bill in the Senate, where it passed on a 24-12 vote --- with no debate.

It now goes to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to be signed into law.

Hold everything for a second.

The California Milk Advisory Board is trying desperately to set the record straight about what they insist are "misstatements" which directly relate to AB 1778.

The CMAB is stating that it is funded by California’s dairy producers through a 'check-off' program --- NOT funded by taxpayer dollars.

Because the funds are administered through the California Department of Food and Agriculture, it may be referred to as 'public funds', but the money does not come from taxes.

The funds come out of the pockets of 1,752 struggling California dairy families --- some near bankruptcy.

The CMAB adamantly states that it has NEVER filmed a "Happy California Cows" commercial anywhere but in the state of California.

Producers did shoot a portion of the "Unhappy Cows Auditions" campaign --- which features unhappy foreign cows auditioning to come to California --- in New Zealand.

The CMAB points out that this production decision saved over $750,000 for California's dairy families who paid for the making of the commercial TV spots.

"There have been a number of misperceptions about the CMAB, its campaign and where the funding comes from.  These are damaging to the state's dairy families," the California Milk Advisory Board insists.

While it is right that any promotion of California which is funded by TAXPAYER DOLLARS should be produced within the state, it appears that the CMAB --- and California's dairy farmers --- have been publicly misrepresented along with their honest intentions.

Sounds like somebody in Sacramento needs a healthy glass of milk.

GOT MILK?

California Emergency Text Alerts

Sprint and the State of California have officially partnered to launch America's first mass mobile alert system.  Emergency-by-text is the new wave of the future, and so very 'California'.

Warnings about wildfires, earthquakes, tsunamis, mudslides, civil unrest, terrorism and other emergencies will soon be instantly transmitted to every California citizen with a cell phone.

The California Emergency Management Agency and Sprint announced their plans to deploy the Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS), a public safety technology tool to deliver warnings and emergency info via text alerts to wireless phone users.

The first CMAS pilot program will start in San Diego County in the next couple of months, according to the county's Office of Emergency Services.

The CMAS technology operates similarly to the emergency alerts on TV or land line phones.  Emergency texts are sent to cell phones in a specific geographic area, from the smallest neighborhood to the entire state.

"California is proud to lead the country in having the ability to instantly alert residents via their mobile phones to an emergency or disaster specific to their current location," said Cal EMA Secretary Matthew Bettenhausen.

"This technology, along with Sprint's seasoned record of providing reliable wireless and network support during the state's wildfires, floods and earthquakes will prove a tremendous resource."

OES will assess the public safety tool with 100 phones distributed to law enforcement agencies, fire agencies and other partners.  OES projects that the emergency technology will be available for public use in 2011.

During the wildfire disasters three years ago, the San Diego County OES was able to safely evacuate a half-million residents, so it works.

This new cell phone alert technology will expand its reach to contact everyone in an impacted area, including California tourists and guests.

"In San Diego, a number of people come to visit us and go to the beach or come from out of state," said Leslie Luke, group program manager at OES.

"With this new system, we'll be able to geocode a particular area and reach people based on cell towers, including tourists who may be here for business or pleasure."

In the pilot program, the alerts will be sent to Sprint over a secure interface, then delivered to cell phones using the CMAS technology. Text-based CMAS alerts will also reach deaf and blind wireless customers through vibrations and audio tones.

Now, if we could only get emergency text alerts on political developments...

I Was at Wattstax

August 24, 2010

Wattstax was the concert event held at the Los Angeles Coliseum on August 20, 1972.  It was a colossal celebration of the 'black experience', and I was there.

I was just a kid, and white, but I was at Wattstax for one of the greatest moments in black history --- and I still cannot forget it.

Called the 'Afro-American Woodstock', Wattstax drew a staggering crowd of 100,000 black Californians to the L.A. Coliseum to commemorate the 7th anniversary of the 1965 Watts Riots.

In those days, my mom was a singer-songwriter, and she was excited about going to the event.  She invited me along.  I asked, "What's a Wattstax?"  She replied, "It's a concert, and Isaac Hayes is gonna be there!"

In 1972, Isaac Hayes was starting to be called a 'superstar', due to his Shaft movie soundtrack the year before.  Hayes was ultra-cool, so I anticipated a great concert.

What I did not anticipate was 100,000 people who were ALL BLACK.  I already knew black people, but not as the only blond kid in an endless sea of afros!

Upon entering inside the Los Angeles Coliseum, I was intimidated by the shocking size of the crowd, which appeared to be billions of people.  Then, it sunk-in that everyone I saw was black.  We stuck out like a 'white thumb'.

I didn't care about their blackness, but I thought they might not like our whiteness.  I had noticed posters which said something about the "black experience".  I had no black experience, so I wasn't sure if I felt welcomed or not.

As it turned out, everyone was really nice and totally cool, so I relaxed in  no time.  Once we were seated, I could see the whole arena and I simply could not believe how many people there were in one place.  It was overwhelming.

More overwhelming, though, was the speech by a young Jesse Jackson.  There I was, shouting, "I'm black!  I'm proud!  I am somebody!" with 100,000 other people.  Nobody there thought I was weird.

Besides, I was starting to feel sort of 'black' as time went on.  Wattstax was six hours long.

The music was unbelievable.  Very passionate.  Very honest.  Video could never capture what it was all about.  Other folks who were there will tell you the same thing.  I don't think any of us knew the event would turn out to be so historic.

Wattstax was a 'Be-In' where unity and togetherness were strongly in the air --- along with the pot smoke.

People would jump up from their seats and start dancing spontaneously.  The atmosphere was unpredictable, wild and free.  Nobody knew what to expect next, and the place was charged with an electricity you could actually feel.

The crowd showed the utmost respect for every act that appeared onstage, and every performer gave 100-percent.  Many famous soul, R&B, gospel, and funk acts took part in the legendary music festival, which was later used in the Wattstax documentary film.

My favorite Wattstax performance was "Son of Shaft" by The Bar-Kays.  What a jaw-dropping kick-ass LIVE performance!  I was in absolute awe.  Years later, when I first saw Prince perform, I knew who he got some of his inspiration from.  These guys did it first.

Enjoy the videos of some Wattstax performances below.  I really wish that everybody could have been there on such an empowering day in California history.

California Turning Muslim?

Zaytuna College, the first accredited Muslim college in California, officially opened today in Berkeley.  Californiality has been flooded with emails from Californians proclaiming, "California is turning Muslim!"

OMG, are you kidding?  Please.

Of course, the current buzz over the proposed Muslim community center near Ground Zero in NYC has a lot of nerves on edge, but let's not get carried away in the Golden State.  Let's look at this situation objectively, as rational adults.

Zaytuna College is, indeed, now open and accepting students at their rented premises at Berkeley’s American Baptist Seminary of the West --- yes --- on 'Baptist ground'.

The college offers a four-year bachelor’s degree with two majors: Islamic Law & Theology and Arabic Language.  The college is open to students of any faith, though, and it charges fees of $11,000 per year.

The Bay Area has a growing Muslim community.  It's just a simple fact.  There are 53 mosques and numerous nonprofit Muslim organizations operating in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Zaytuna College officials describe the City of Berkeley as an intellectual and spiritual mecca of political and social justice activism which enjoys abundant cultural attractions.  Naturally, Berkeley would attract any type of institution of higher learning.

California's new Muslim college is receiving wide press coverage, with many media outlets attempting to spin the college's opening as another 'Muslim controversy'.  However, the arrival of the college highlights an already-increased interest in Islamic studies in general.

California has long been a society which welcomes all forms of spiritual expression, including Christianity, Judaism, Satanism, Atheism, Paganism, Shinto, Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, Bahai, Taoism, Wicca, Scientology, Mormonism, Kabbalah, Zoroastrianism and UFO cults.

Who would think it strange that Islamic faith is being exercised in California of all places?

The larger question might be:

Why do so many people consider their own faith to be threatened by the proximity of another faith?

Either one's faith is strong and unshakable, or it's weak and illegitimate.  Period.

My own faith, based on the teachings of The Bible, is deeply personal.  My beliefs are not influenced by the differing beliefs of others.  I do not feel threatened by the presence of opposing views all around me.

The whole world will not conform to my reality, nor do I ever expect it to.

I appreciate the spiritual variety that exists in California.  People are free to seek their own faith here.  That's one of the reasons I am a Californian.  Freedom rocks, but theocracy totally sucks.

California is not 'turning Muslim', and Zaytuna College is definitely not a threat to people of Wisdom.

E-Personation Law in California

The California Legislature, to protect victims of online impersonation, or 'e-personation', unanimously passed Senate Bill 1411, authored by State Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto).

SB 1411 now awaits the signature of Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The bill would make it a misdemeanor to maliciously impersonate another person online, and it updates the State of California's old impersonation laws to cover the modern abuse of social networking and email.

"In the age of the Internet," said Senator Simitian, "pretending to be someone else is as easy as using their name to create a new e-mail account. When that is done to cause harm, folks need a law on the books they can turn to."

"Our impersonation laws are long overdue for an update," Simitian continued.  "New laws are needed to crack down on this form of harassment."

The law would make it illegal to create a Facebook or Twitter account with someone else's name, and then use that account to humiliate or belittle that person.

SB 1411 would make it a misdemeanor to impersonate another person through the internet or other electronic means with criminal intent to harm, intimidate, threaten, or defraud.

Only an online impersonation of an actual person that is credible and done without consent would fall under the law.

The penalties for online impersonation would be up to a $1,000 fine and/or up to one year in the slammer. The bill would also allow victims of online impersonation to seek compensation for damages in court.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), an online human rights organization, suspiciously looks upon the 'e-personation' legislation as a potential muzzle on free speech.

The EFF states that "impersonation" of corporations and public officials has become an important form of political activism, and they point out that laws against defamation and fraud are already on the books, and they apply online as well as offline.

Supporters of SB 1411 say there's no cause for alarm because the law would only apply to "credible" impersonations. The legislators' main issue is that, presently, victims of online harassment and defamation don't have much legal recourse.

Vanish Valley

August 20, 2010

Vanish Valley is an indie psychedelic folk-rock group from Los Angeles with a sound that can only be described as trippy-but-cool.

Vanish Valley's self-titled debut album, released in July 2010 on the independent Hard Bark label, was recorded at The Lookout Tower in Los Angeles.

A four-piece band, Vanish Valley includes singer/guitarist Andrew McAllister, bassist Henry Derek Bonner, keyboardist Cara Batema, and drummer Julio Javier.

The album is as unique as you can get, with songs like "Sinking Ship", "Sunshine City", and "Light Of Your Life" leading the way into the realm where the conscious meets the subconscious.

Whoever said "psychedelia is dead" was dead wrong.  It is very much alive in Vanish Valley, wrapped in an Americana flavor with an edgy psychology for spice.

This group's sound is totally meant for the headphones, and the production is fantastically ethereal.  Enjoy the following video, then grab Vanish Valley for your collection.  Strangely hip.

California Drive-Thru Church

A Southern California man is an answer to prayer for San Bernardino County Christians who want to fit fellowship into their busy lives.  His solution is simple.

A drive-thru church.

Shawn Heggi, a Redlands garbage truck driver and volunteer Christian spiritual counselor, mans a blue tent at a busy intersection for a few hours daily in Loma Linda, California, leading prayers for believers on-the-go.

"It's just a dirt field, but to us it's church," said Heggi, who attracts Inland Empire motorists with a 4-foot sign which reads "Need Prayer?".

Heggi, 35, created his prayer stand with two Christian buddies ten months ago.  Heggi has no formal ministerial training.  Like many Christian believers, he feels that all Christians are "ministers of the Lord".

One of the drive-thru church's co-founders, Gary Carrera, a 39-year-old grocery truck driver, sums up the drive-thru church's philosophy:  "I'm just one beggar telling another beggar where the bread is."

Right on, brother, right on!

Visitors stop by the drive-thru church to pray, to read the Word of God, and to share Christian testimonies.  The church's site is convenient for folks who want to have a quick spiritual rendezvous with fellow believers.

It's not just Christians who stop by the make-shift prayer chapel either.  The drive-thru church attracts non-believers, worshipers of all faiths, folks who have lost their faith, agnostics, and atheists.

Heggi says the most common prayer requests he receives are for help with keeping a home out of foreclosure, family members, loved ones, addictions, and pets.

Heggi's rugged ministry appeals to worshippers en-route, conveniently placed near a busy intersection and a couple of hospitals.  The drive-thru church opens daily at 3:30 PM and closes at sundown.

The drive-thru's location, Loma Linda, is spiritually ironic.  The phrase, "loma linda" is the Spanish equivalent of "beautiful hill".  Calvary is revered by Christians as the most beautiful hill in the world.

The City of Loma Linda, California was incorporated in 1970, at the height of the "Jesus Movement".

Robert H. Schuller, founder of the world-famous Southern California megachurch, the Crystal Cathedral, started up in a similar way at a drive-in theater five decades ago.  You never know where something will lead.

It is intriguing that in today's California, the Megachurch Capitol, there is a demand for a no-frills drive-thru church.  It seems that there are a lot of folks who still want to "keep it real", spiritually speaking.

Shawn Heggi is a non-denominational Christian believer who teaches Sunday school at the Packinghouse Church in Redlands.

This California news blog applauds and supports the efforts of self-sacrificing people like Shawn Heggi who simply want to help out fellow Californians right where they are.

$200 Million for California Broadband

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is excited that California was awarded $200 million in broadband project grants by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration for Broadband Technology Opportunities Program.

"The projects awarded to California today stand to create hundreds of jobs for Californians and benefit thousands more. Getting broadband access to those in under-served areas is essential to promoting economic growth and spurring job creation. The grants awarded to California today will supply that foundation," said Schwarzenegger.

The projects receiving funds are part of a program, administered by the U.S. Department of Commerce, to expand broadband access from coast to coast.

Here is the list of grants awarded to California which will help create nearly 1,000 new jobs:
  • Zerodivide - Will increase broadband usage among the 15 Native American tribes in rural San Diego County as part of its Tribal Digital Village project, providing 8,900 tribal residents and 2,000 residents living in adjacent communities with broadband training, awareness, and adoption programs.
  • Foundation For California Community Colleges - Will provide outreach, training, and educational support to increase digital literacy skills and broadband adoption.  It will encourage broadband usage among students and their families, especially among low-income residents in the Central Valley.
  • Plumas Sierra Telecommunications - Will offer affordable middle-mile broadband service in California, foster economic development, and improve education and health care in rural areas. The project plans to connect 18 community institutions, 33,000 people, and 2,100 businesses to broadband.
  • Motorola, Inc. - Will allow public safety entities in the San Francisco Bay Area to deploy a wireless public safety broadband network serving 200 public safety sites and 50,000 public safety users.  6 million people will benefit from the project.
  • Central Valley Independent Network - Will offer affordable middle-mile broadband service in the Central Valley. The project will connect 63 community institutions to broadband.  3.6 million people and 160,000 businesses will benefit.
  • California Broadband Cooperative, Inc. - Will offer affordable middle-mile broadband service in California. The project will connect 230 community institutions to broadband.  62,400 people and 2,500 businesses will benefit.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is responsible for the new broadband stimulus in California.

Soon, all of California will have high-speed internet access, so Californiality shares Governor Schwarzenegger's gratitude to all parties who worked so hard to solicit these grants on behalf of California.

Chelene Nightingale Tsunami

August 17, 2010

California candidate for Governor Chelene Nightingale is attracting what can only be called a 'tsunami' of support.

I know because Californiality is being inundated with emails from voters either asking about Nightingale, sending items on the candidate, or thanking me for covering the lady they've become excited about.

I was going to wait a bit until doing another Nightingale post, but it's starting to get a little crazy.  I now have to have people helping me to wade through endless inbox items.  So many emails over the past week are all about Chelene Nightingale.  OMG.

Make it stop!

Apparently, a tremendous number of voters started changing their minds about Meg Whitman after her interview on KFI radio's John and Ken Show.  I missed that show, so I'm wondering --- what the heck did Meg do to swing so many folks over to Nightingale's side so suddenly?

Thanks, Meg.  Now my life is nothing but email.

I am not here to endorse anyone for public office, but it does seem a little weird that I don't get this much response about the other candidates.  I really don't know exactly where this is all headed, but it sure doesn't match what we're hearing on TV or in the "polls".

I keep getting hit with links to the following video which folks want to dedicate to Chelene Nightingale and her supporters.  Here ya go, folks.  You want it, you got it.  I have a feeling it will be a #1 smash all the way to Election Day.

Pray for Zsa Zsa!

Zsa Zsa Gabor is home with Prince Frederic where she wants to be, and many Zsa Zsa fans are happy the Hollywood legend is finally out of the hospital and in familiar, comfortable surroundings.

I share the feeling on Zsa Zsa's behalf.  Hospitals can be scary.

Californiality has received a lot of emails of thanks for last week's post, Free Zsa Zsa!, along with requests for fellow Californians to join together in prayer and good thoughts for the popular celebrity.

Zsa Zsa Gabor has been a part of the fabric of California for several decades and has earned the right to the title, 'California Icon'.  I am confident that Arnold, Maria, and most Californians agree.

I am, like many Californians, praying for Zsa Zsa's peace and comfort during her excruciating ordeal, and I pray that her prince continues to be a pillar of strength for his bride of a quarter century.

Californiality has, however, received a slap of cruel emails spewing venom about alleged aspects of the elderly star's past relationships and choices in her life --- which shall not be repeated here.

What nerve.  What unmitigated gall.

While this blog makes every attempt to stay 'above the fray' and maintain a positive position, there are times when it is appropriate to 'bend the rules' in defense of a lady.

This is one of those times.

HOW DARE YOU?

This lady is past 90 years of age.  Have you no respect?  Zsa Zsa's personal choices --- years ago --- are none of your business.  Who elected you God?  Zsa Zsa has gone home to continue her fight to stay ALIVE after doctors did all that they possibly could.  Let the lady have some peace, you jackals and vultures.

Some of the tacky, heartless emailers are members of the media, and a few are bitter Hollywood celebrities.  Unbelievable and inexcusable.

Fortunately, the embarrassingly ugly emails are FAR outnumbered by genuinely concerned people who are pulling for Zsa Zsa.  To know Zsa Zsa Gabor is to know what a tough fighter she has been for many, many years.

Even the toughest fighters need to know that someone is behind them, though.

We are behind you, Zsa Zsa ---

ALL THE WAY.

Imogen Heap Saves L.A. Trees

August 16, 2010

Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and recording artist Imogen Heap is helping the Los Angeles area plant and care for trees.

During her recent LIVE concert at L.A.'s Greek Theatre, Imogen Heap performed an 'improv' song in honor of TreePeople, a Los Angeles nonprofit organization.

The composition was an improvised piece of music, where the key, tempo and time signature were chosen by the audience 30-seconds before Imogen Heap performed it LIVE onstage.

The performance was made available for download with all proceeds are going to TreePeople to raise funds for their mountain reforestation project in the Angeles National Forest.

The popular performer has a history of using her talent for public service.

Heap previously participated in the album, Songs for Tibet:The Art of Peace, which supported human rights.  The singer also contributed her time and energy to Run 10k-Cancer Research UK, placing #5 of the women in the run and raising big money for the cause.

In February 2010, Imogen Heap improvised a song titled, "The Shepherdess", which was available to download shortly afterward. All proceeds went to Great Ormond Street Hospital because, when she was a little girl, she was diagnosed with Osteomyelitis and a surgeon saved her leg.

Following the successful improv performance, Miss Heap decided to make LIVE improvised music for charity throughout ALL cities in her North American tour. The charities for each city are all local nonprofit organizations.

Imogen Heap's contribution of the improv composition occurred during the Los Angeles leg of a concert tour promoting her Billboard #1 album, Ellipse.

TreePeople unites the power of trees, people and technology to grow a sustainable future for Los Angeles.

I appreciate Imogen Heap for her talent and for sharing her creativity to benefit Los Angeles.  She is welcome in L.A. anytime.

#1 California Poem on the Internet Exclusively on Californiality.com

"I AM CALIFORNIA"

I am the creative genesis persisting amid chaos; the idea made manifest.

I am the eternal state of "becoming".

Ever changing, morphing and mutating, my essence reflects the mind of my Creator.

Purity, perfection and productivity are my principles.

I am innovation; the perennially new. I am relentless forward momentum.

I am the unity of the spiritual, the mental and the physical. I am symmetry and balance.

I am the created who recreates; the blessed who blesses; the beloved who loves without prejudice.

I am expression; the vision seen; the voice heard; the thought interpreted.

Races, religions and cultures are my colors, hues and shades. Variety is my lifeblood.

I am the portrait of humanity which beckons an impassioned brush stroke from every hand.

I am relationship; always conversing, sharing, belonging, reciprocating, accepting and providing.

I am contrary; an oasis in the desert; order from chaos; beauty from ashes; hope from despair; unity from diversity; light from darkness.

I am information, communication, technology and intelligence always seeking Wisdom.

Ever the student of the Eternal, I instruct willing minds through my failures and successes.

I am the experience; the be-in; the adventure; the journey; the trip. I am interactivity and participation.

I am the ultimate; the zenith; the apex; the extreme; the max. Limitless minds are my companions into the timeless unknown.

I am to be merged with; not to simply be admired from afar. My visions are to be shared; my dreams are to be realized; my desires are to be consummated.

I am the fruit of ambition, effort and achievement. I am the rarest wine to be tasted, savored and thoroughly enjoyed, not merely collected.

Golden, priceless and breathtaking, I am the star-studded dream, the quaking vision, and the imagination on fire.

I am California.
