"In California" Neko Case

"In California" is a 2001 song by recording artist Neko Case.  One of the most brutally honest songs about California, it communicates the disappointment with Los Angeles of songwriter Lisa Marr.

In a situation that has become an L.A. cliche', songwriter Marr finds herself in the thick of La La Land.  After dreaming of Hollywood success, the songwriter discovers that California is no easy paradise.

I an ironically humorous twist, she ends up living in Koreatown, accompanied by car alarms --- not exactly a songwriter's California Dream.

"In California" is a great California song, though.  In the end, the songwriter is still willing to give L.A. another shot even though she feels alienated and homesick.

Some dreams are just too hard to give up on...
