"Sognando la California" is a 1966 Italian version of The Mamas and The Papas California song "California Dreamin" by the beat-pop group Dik Dik.

When the Italian pop stars heard John and Michelle Phillips' #1 California '60s anthem, the group utilized the talent of lyricist Mogol to translate the smash single into Italian.

Mogul remained faithful to the original lyrics, leaving unchanged the desire for the warmth of Los Angeles that comes from a cold reality highlighted by a gray sky and dying leaves.

The members of Dik Dik fell in love with the original song's melody, chord progressions, arrangement and the emotional flute solo --- and the group rushed into the studio.

Recorded in Milan, "Sognando la California" became a megahit single in 1966, becoming the most successful and enduring of all California songs in Italian history.

The message of "California Dreamin" resonates in any language around the world --- a world which still dreams of the Golden State today.

Grazie to Dik Dik for such a passionate version of a powerful song about California.
