"This Town" The Go-Go's

"This Town" is a 1981 California song about Los Angeles by the all-female new wave rock band The Go-Go's from Hollywood, California.
The gritty lyrics to "This Town" describe L.A. as a city filled with dreamers, whores, discarded stars, catty girls and pretty boys, where locals are urged to "make up that face, jump in the race".
Throughout the twangy garage-rock anthem, Go-Go's lead singer Belinda Carlisle sums up L.A.'s appearance-obsessed, narcissistic society by declaring:
"This town is our town. It is so glamorous. Bet you'd live here if you could and be one of us."
One of the more jaded California songs, "This Town" is a track from The Go-Go's multi-platinum, record-breaking #1 debut album, Beauty and the Beat.
The songwriters for "This Town" are Go-Go's band members Charlotte Caffey and Jane Wiedlin, who have both composed many hit songs over the last 30 years.
The Go-Go's success story began in the late '70s, performing in Hollywood clubs like the Whiskey A Go-Go on the world-famous Sunset Strip.
As an all-girl group trying to make it in the L.A. recording industry, The Go-Go's rebelled against sexy female California stereotypes as they forged a new path for future female rock stars to follow.
The women of The Go-Go's paid their dues and earned their stripes in the inferno of the Hollywood entertainment industry, and their street-credibility shines through with authenticity on "This Town".
