"Goodnight California" Nate Currin
Friday, June 3, 2011
"Goodnight California" is a 2011 pop California song by singer/songwriter Nate Currin from his debut album, Goodnight California.
With straightforward, emotionally honest lyrics, "Goodnight California" shares the feelings of a guy who visits the Golden State, relishes the allure of California, falls in love with a California girl, then questions whether it's all real or just a beautiful lie.
In the song's music video, which co-stars actress Niki Huey, Nate Currin plays an 'average Joe' who experiences the gut-wrenching dichotomy of hellish heartbreak in Paradise after a bittersweet taste of California love.
Currin's appeal is that he is the 'everyman' --- someone who looks like most guys do and expresses what most guys feel. No rockstar posing, image building nor glitter here. The emotions take center stage, so they penetrate with authenticity.
"Goodnight California" was produced by Dan Hannon and Simon Illa, and the music video was directed and produced by Matt Odom.
One of the more serious songs about California, "Goodnight California" deals with actual adult feelings, so no frivolous dance fluff here, folks.
As I drive around L.A. listening to Currin's apparent farewell to the California Dream, is it all over? As I grab another Kleenex, should I consider relocating to Anytown, USA? Is there any hope?
Currin declared, "Even in dark times you can find the light. That's definitely what I focused on for the new album, Goodnight California."
Thank you for the encouragement, Nate Currin. I won't say "Goodnight California" just yet, but I'll keep listening to your great song.
