"Sausalito Summernight" Diesel

"Sausalito Summernight" is a 1981 pop California song about the San Francisco Bay Area by the Dutch rock band Diesel from Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Diesel was one of the few Dutch groups to have a hit on the U.S. music charts and, with "Sausalito Summernight", the band had an international hit single.

It even reached #1 in Canada, of all places.

A catchy song full of pop hooks, "Sausalito Summernight" tells the tale of a California summer road trip in an old clunker with little money and a lot of engine trouble --- but plenty of fun in the sun.

Ironically, the absolute best video performance of Diesel's 1981 bouncy hit song (below) is from a reunion performance 30 years later in 2011.  I guess it just goes to show that the Dutch truly are "built to last."

One of the most toe-tapping California songs of all time, "Sausalito Summernight" is Diesel's great contribution to the musical mosaic of the Golden State.
