Crystal Cathedral Crisis or Opportunity?

Thursday, November 3, 2011

The Crystal Cathedral, founded by Christian author Robert Schuller, is in the midst of its greatest crisis, but could it be an opportunity in disguise for the embattled Garden Grove, California megachurch?

While prospective new owners circle the Crystal Cathedral like sharks with their offers, could it be possible for the famous Orange County Christian ministry to redeem itself?

Many Christians bear witness that the power of God is miraculously powerful, but will the Lord step in at a time when Robert Schuller's church desperately needs its own "Hour of Power"?

Bidders vs. God

Several Christian leaders have commented that it looks like wealthy negotiators have been lining-up to play "Let's Make A Deal" for the House of God.

The eye-popping architecture of the gleaming Crystal Cathedral sits on 40 acres of extremely desirable Southern California real estate, in a perfect climate and in a prosperous county.

The bargain basement asking price from a seller perceived as being desperate makes the property irresistible to opportunists of every persuasion.

Several parties have expressed an interest in acquiring a piece of glory, with four of them recently announcing their interests publicly.

Chapman University formally offered $51 million for the iconic megachurch, and the educational institution may end up as the new owner.

The Protestant Christian ministry has been looking desperately for a way to cover $52 million in debts since filing bankruptcy.  Some are saying the ministry has simply run its course.

Angie Schuller-Wyatt, the granddaughter of Crystal Cathedral founder Robert H. Schuller and the daughter of Robert A. Schuller, has gone public with her feelings.

"In any U.S. corporation, the leadership would be removed in the face of bankruptcy. As long as the current leadership maintains control, there will be no positive change at the Crystal Cathedral. They're buying time by hawking one of America's greatest cathedrals," declared Schuller-Wyatt.

"Their actions continue to defame Christianity as they stretch out what little comfort remains in their lives."

Schuller's granddaughter is critical of the board members who helped shipwreck her grandfather's Christian ministry as she states, "They must be held responsible, man-up and face the music," adding that "the Crystal Cathedral was intended to belong to God and not be parking lot."

There are those who would say that the Crystal Cathedral, a stunningly gorgeous example of beauty and glory, is turning herself out for cash to the highest bidder after a fall from grace.

Most observers are opining that, without a miracle, the Crystal Cathedral will be irrevocably lost --- that Robert Schuller's ministry is over, swallowed up in the game plan of mankind's cunning adversary.

A great number of Christian believers are lamenting that, after decades of spiritual battles with the enemy, one of the world's most renowned houses of worship was manipulated out of its builder's hands through PRIDE.

Is all hope gone for Robert Schuller's legacy, the Crystal Cathedral?   Has it all come down to being at the mercy of some new owner's indifferent whim?

The Crystal Cathedral is looking for a way, grappling for truth and fighting for life.

Perhaps the One who declared Himself the Way, the Truth and the Life should be consulted immediately, while all other parties are put on hold.
