"This Town" is a 2011 pop song about Los Angeles, California by singer-songwriter Dotan from Amsterdam, Netherlands.
A single from the album Dream Parade, "This Town" was written as the artist's first impression of Los Angeles upon arrival for a recording session.
Dotan, 24, was born in Jerusalem, Israel, raised in Holland, and later studied at New York's Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute as an actor.
During his youth in Europe, Dotan was inspired by singer-songwriters James Taylor, Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Sting and Neil Young.
After embarking on a music career, Dotan worked alongside musicians Michael Chaves, John Mayer, Rufus Wainwright and Sarah McLachlan, describing the experience as "a true highlight."Upon signing a recording contract with EMI Music, Dotan took off for sunny Southern California to record his debut album.
His reaction to Los Angeles was positive and intensely emotional, prompting him to compose "This Town" spontaneously in reaction. The California song is now popular across Europe.
Dotan describes his L.A. experience as feeling the sun beneath the gravity during the day, and as city lights trying to catch him as he opens his eyes to see the beauty of falling stars coming alive at night.
Such a poetic descriptive of the City of Angels, coupled with a great Adult Contemporary pop music soundtrack, makes "This Town" by Dotan one of the classic songs about California.
