Friday, August 12, 2011
Warrant's Jani Lane has died in Los Angeles at 47.
Lane, the lead singer of the '80s and '90s rock band Warrant, was found dead at a hotel in the San Fernando Valley community of Woodland Hills.
The cause of the L.A. rock star's death has not yet been determined.
Jani Lane (born John Kennedy Oswald) was the frontman for the Los Angeles, California rock group Warrant between the years 1986 and 2008.
Warrant is best known for the rock music singles "Down Boys", "Sometimes She Cries", "Cherry Pie", "I Saw Red" and the megahit "Heaven" during a music career that enjoyed repeated platinum status.
Jani Lane released the solo album, Back Down to One, in 2003 and was a reality TV star on VH1's "Celebrity Fit Club" in 2005.
Lane recently revealed that he was working on his long-awaited 2011 Jabberwocky album project, which has experienced a multitude of sample leaks on the Internet for years with a huge cult following.
"I will be releasing a remastered and possibly re-recorded version of Jabberwocky by September. Tired of hearing bastardized versions floating all around the world. Guess it's time to put it out there properly," said Lane.
It is unknown how much of the Jabberwocky album was mastered in the studio before Jani Lane's death, but L.A. music insiders anticipate a new release very soon.
