"California Sun" Adam Stern

February 27, 2011

"California Sun" is a 2009 pop California song by recording artist Adam Stern from his album, The Dreamer Child.

Originally from Berkeley, Adam Stern is a Los Angeles-based artist who blends folk, reggae, funk, world rhythms, hip hop and rock into a magical 'trip' through the Golden State.

Regardless, Stern's "California Sun" is one of the most creative songs about California, and the video is truly eye-popping.  Once you enjoy this extremely upbeat and happy California song, you'll want to play it over and over.

GSM Entertainment is the production company and Geoffrey S. McNeil is the director for the video, which is phenomenal.

"California Sun" is a song like no other, highly-original, and in a class by itself --- very well done.

Watch the following video and let Adam Stern know how much you like his musical contribution to California history.

"California" Belinda Carlisle

"California" is a 1997 pop California song by Belinda Carlisle, the lead singer of the legendary Go-Go's from Los Angeles.

Written by Rick Nowels, Billy Steinberg and Maria Vidal, "California" was a single from Belinda Carlisle's album, A Woman and a Man.

One of the more melancholy songs about California, it was released as a single in the UK and Australia.

In "California", Carlisle mourns the loss of actor River Phoenix and recalls the shock of the 1994 Northridge Earthquake --- while looking glamorously Hollywood-perfect in her video.

You know, I still like the chubby screaming punk rocker version of Belinda Carlisle that made her famous but, hey, this late '90s image ain't bad to look at, dudes.

"California" was produced and mixed by David Tickle, with Phil Grande on guitar, Nick Beggs on bass, Steve Wren on drums, Rory Kaplan on keyboards, and Paulinho Da Costa on percussion.

Background vocals were sung by Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys and the song was recorded at the Journey Room in Malibu.

Throughout the song, a tanning bed and Chardonnay were emphasized and reemphasized.

How much more California can "California" get, man?

After watching her video, visit the official Belinda Carlisle website and tell her that she's always been your favorite member of The Go-Go's!

Somali Pirate Christians Mourned

February 25, 2011

A sailing Southern California Christian couple killed by Somali pirates during their cruise around the world to distribute Bibles has been honored by the words of the couple's church pastor.

Retired Senior Californians Scott Adam and Jean Adam of Marina del Rey gave the remainder of their lives making a difference in the world by bringing Bibles to the four corners of the earth.

"They were faith-filled people, people of the Scripture... They were great people of our community.  Our community believes in helping to form loving disciples who will transform this world," said Pastor Lloyd Torgerson of Santa Monica.

Sharing Bibles was the missionary quest of Scott and Jean Adam throughout the missionary sailing journey they began seven years ago.

Their 58-foot sloop, the Quest, had separated from the cruise fleet traveling from Australia to the Mediterranean when they were hijacked by 19 Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Oman.

The murderous pirates captured Scott Adam, Jean Adam and their friends, Bob Riggle and Phyllis Macay of Seattle.

Four U.S. naval warships were tailing the captured vessel and Navy officials were engaged in negotiations with two of the pirates on board one of the American naval ships three days ago.

Talks were abruptly ended by the sound of gunfire coming from the Quest, which Navy forces quickly boarded and captured.

All four Americans were shot --- without mercy --- while sharing the love of true friendship with strangers.

Pastor Torgerson said that his Christian friends' deaths made him feel "great, great, loss and great pain".

"They won the Crown. I believe with all my heart they are with God today," Torgerson continued, "I hope that the four of them find that great Peace."

The Los Angeles area couple had expressed their desire of finding "homes" for the Word of God as a part of what they called "friendship evangelism".

The Adams boat was sailing to the nation of Oman when they were captured.  Two Somali pirates were killed and 13 were captured in a naval confrontation.

Pastor Torgerson offered that all Californians can be inspired by Scott and Jean Adam.

"We want to make sure that each one of us does as they have done: to go about with courage and strength to make a difference in this world," the pastor emotionally declared.

"They were doing that as retired people, so all ages can go out and make some difference."

Spiritual friends around the world have offered tearful prayers and condolences to the devastated family members of the "Four Evangelists of the Sea".

Professor Robert K. Johnston of Pasadena's Fuller Theological Seminary recalled how Scott Adam earned a Master of Theology degree from the school in 2010 and how, with his sailing mission, Adam put his seminary education to good use.

"He was sailing around the world and serving God, two of his passions," said Johnston who also stated that despite an adventurous spirit, the Adams were detailed in their planning and aware of the risks of international sailing.

Scott Adam was an associate producer in the Hollywood entertainment industry when he dedicated the rest of his life to God and enrolled in studies at Fuller Theological Seminary.

Professor Johnston and Scott Adam shared a dream to start a film and theology institute in Los Angeles, and Adam taught a class on church and media at the seminary.

During their 2011 sailing mission, Scott Adam and his wife, Jean, visited Thailand, Sri Lanka and India, passing out Bibles from both the American Bible Society and Biblica

This California blog urges all Californians to make donations to both nonprofit organizations in honor of the sacrifice of true Christian friendship made by the sailing missionaries from Marina del Rey.

California Dream vs American Dream

February 22, 2011

The California Dream or the American Dream --- which is more powerful today?

It would probably help to know what makes California so different.

Though famously 'laid back', California's people are positively confident.  Strength with style.  Fortitude with fantasy.  Courage with coolness.  Grit with glamor.

The positive vibration still defiantly persists in the world's most creative society.

In California, we are blessed with abundant land, the Pacific coast, majestic mountains, and powerful dreamers, creators, organizers and marketers.

We The People Of California are relentlessly marching forward into the next dimension we have co-created.

Beyond the United States, we are CALIFORNIA.

While we honor our special relationship with the USA, we are a land and society with our own constitution, economy, philosophy and ideals.  We produce 13-percent of the U.S. gross domestic product but we remain 100-percent California.

Californians cherish the independent spirit that results from the spiritual liberation of the INDIVIDUAL.  All must first understand this point to effectively engage with us.
  • We are a culture of confidence, so we believe in our abilities.
  • We are a society of faith, so we release our past and create our future.
  • We are misunderstood, so we have nothing to lose by restructuring Life itself.
  • We are a state of mind more than a state in a union.
  • We bring the 'impossible' into the practical world.
  • We do not revere convention, tradition, habit, pattern nor predictability.
  • We are easily frustrated by mediocrity, so we must always 'push the envelope'.
  • We live on the edge of the earth; the edge of the imagination; the edge of time.
The only thing that can stop our momentum is a lack of faith in the future, which we experience in regular, short cycles.

Once we face our fears of an uncertain future head-on, we Californians bust through all thoughts of lack and limitation and design a bold new reality.

We realize that America cannot comprehend the 'method to our madness' but, in turn, we Californians cannot relate to America's growing belief that everyone must do with less; that we must give more without expecting any return on our investment of time and talent.

The world can know that America is the past, and that California is the future, when the President confers with our California leaders in an arbitrary attempt to jump-start America's momentum.

Is America's emerging tendency toward social dependency now at odds with the California Dream --- and our $2-trillion California economy?

Independent and innovative Americans who will not accept social defeatism are moving to California.

Is America now discouraging individual genius from blossoming while California prepares fertile soil for growth?

Lately, some have commented on a "diabolical attempt to discourage Americans into resigned submission to a global agenda which aims to centralize power".

Who knows, and who cares?

We Californians couldn't care less about somebody else's power-hungry agenda.  We're marching in a new direction.

California has repeatedly proven itself to be an inspiring land of risk-takers who institute big changes that impact the world, yet we Californians are called 'Pollyannas' for wanting to bless mankind with possibilities, positivity and prosperity.

It seems like California has more critics than the Roman Empire did.  Undaunted, we Californians move onward and upward.

California is a truth, a conviction and, yes, a state of mind.  California is available everywhere for those who will free their minds.
  • California is hope, not fear.
  • California is a dream fulfilled, not discouraged.
  • California is freedom, not control.
  • California is free thought, not propaganda.
  • California is liberation, not limitation.
  • California is never the past, it is forever THE FUTURE.
Of all American Dreams, the California Dream is the gateway to the next dimension of the land of the free and the home of the brave.

All one has to do is observe what many immigrants do once they land in America.  After trying out other parts of the USA, the most creative and ambitious ones make their way to California.

Why is that, exactly?

Because, in California, we are brave enough to be irreverent, tough enough to survive the worst, bold enough to demand the best and experienced enough to stare an unfriendly future straight in the eye ---

--- and smile.

"Buscando California" Los Lovekills

February 21, 2011

"Buscando California" is a 2011 rock California song by Los Lovekills about crawling through a desert wasteland, buscando California (searching for California).

Los Lovekills, from Torreon, Coahuila, have become one of the fastest-rising rock bands on Mexico's national music scene.

The group has recorded one of the best songs about California I've ever heard, and "Buscando California" is my favorite California song en español.

Rock music fans in Los Angeles, San Diego and the San Francisco Bay Area are diggin' this song because it rocks hard --- regardless of language.

Los Lovekills are Robe Mtz (vocals/guitar), Marco Mendoza (bass) and Nico Batarse (drums), with director/producer Duck Safa on the Madame Records label.

The members of Los Lovekills reference the same neo-classic rock vibe channeled by groups like Foo Fighters and Soundgarden, based on a fusion of powerful guitar riffs and a rock-solid rhythmic foundation.

One of the best California songs ever recorded in Spanish, "Buscando California" by Los Lovekills makes something clear in their cool music video --- that California is worth crawling across the desert for.

California Business Boom 2011

February 20, 2011

California small business owners are increasingly bullish on business in 2011, according to the latest small business survey by Citibank.

Of California business owners and entrepreneurs surveyed, 54-percent believe 2011 will be better than 2010 --- a percentage that is up dramatically from last year.

Even though 36-percent expect 2011 to be about the same as last year, entrepreneurs' optimism about business conditions indicates that small businesses are poised for positive growth across the state of California.

According to the Citibank survey, 34-percent of California’s small business owners say their business situation is better than a year ago, up nearly double from 19-percent in March 2010.

What would make the most positive impact on California small businesses in 2011?  Survey respondents stated the following steps would make a world of difference to the profitability of their small businesses:
  1. Reducing taxes
  2. Increasing credit availability
  3. Lowering health care costs
Of California small business owners surveyed, an encouraging 61-percent said they plan to offer new products or services in the coming year.

California business owners stand strongly behind their career choice, with a whopping 76-percent saying they would start their business again even if they knew ahead of time what challenges they would face.

The majority of California's entrepreneurs also insisted that they would recommend entrepreneurship as a career to their children.

Rebecca Macieira-Kaufmann, President of Citibank California, expressed excitement about the results of the latest survey:

"Small businesses are the largest source of jobs in the state of California and their growing optimism represents an incredibly positive development... California's small businesses feel more confident about the current environment and about 2011," she stated.

"California" Sandeagle

February 18, 2011

"California" is a 2011 trance California song by Czech producer and recording artist Sandeagle.

Jirí Dosedel, known internationally as Sandeagle, is from Liberec, Czechy / Bohemia, Czech Republic.

"California" is a great trance single which, along with Sandeagle's stunning video, provides a futuristic journey into the San Francisco Bay Area and the coast of Northern California.

The song's rhythmic intro is over one minute long, but the time-lapsed cloud formations in the California skies are fascinating while waiting for the main theme to kick-in.

Around 1:16 into the track, the chord progressions open up the imagination as high-definition video of San Francisco appears.

The music and the video to "California" both merge breathtakingly as the trance beat pulsates deep into the subconscious mind.

Sandeagle's unusual musical production is nearly eight minutes long, so listeners will not feel short-changed --- especially fans of trance, techno and clouds.

"California" by Sandeagle is the type of song which would fit right into a packed high-tech San Francisco dance club on a Saturday night.

Its 'Czechifornia' vibe sets it apart as one of the most unusual California songs ever recorded.  Fantastic.

"L.A. Woman" The Doors

"L.A. Woman" is a 1971 classic rock California song by the Los Angeles group, The Doors.

The song is the title track on The Doors' 1971 album L.A. Woman, the final album recorded with singer Jim Morrison.

"L.A. Woman" was recorded in West Hollywood, completed in January 1971, and released as single in April 1971 --- following the San Fernando earthquake that rocked Los Angeles.

At nearly eight minutes in length, the song was written by John Densmore, Robby Krieger, Ray Manzerek and Jim Morrison.

Fourteen years later, Ray Manzarek directed a music video for "L.A. Woman" in 1985 (below), which premiered on MTV.

During the song, Jim Morrison repeats the phrase 'Mr. Mojo Risin' --- an anagram of "Jim Morrison".

The song's lyrical references to freeways, hills on fire and a Hollywood bungalow make it clear that the song's setting is Los Angeles, California --- not the state of Louisiana (LA) as some have suggested.

Long labeled a total 'guy song', "L.A. Woman" remains a recording that bars and night clubs rely on to get males dancing, thirsty and buying drinks --- especially in Southern California.

After 40 years, The Doors still have a major hit on their hands.  "L.A. Woman" is one of the most popular songs ever recorded about Los Angeles --- and the best L.A. freeway driving song ever.

Britney Spears vs Lady Gaga

February 17, 2011

Britney Spears has a new video to the lead single "Hold It Against Me" from her upcoming Femme Fatale album --- and it's the best song yet from the Southern California superstar.

Lady Gaga's new song, "Born This Way", is too New York, too gay, and too Madonna 1989.

(Sorry, Gaga, it's totally lame to anyone outside of NYC who's not gay.)

Los Angeles definitely beats New York in this latest round in the Battle of the Pop Divas.

"Hold It Against Me" by Britney Spears is a techno masterpiece.

While the lyrics are suggestively cliche', the music is electromanic and very 2012.  No Gaga or Madonna rip-off in Britney's new single at all.

The song rocks on its own ORIGINAL merit through EXCELLENT PRODUCTION, man.

Amid much buzz and hype, L.A.'s own Britney Spears premiered her highly anticipated music video on MTV before a record number of viewers who, surely, were thrilled with the high-quality video for the "Hold It Against Me" single.

The official video features Spears and 10 male dancers performing sexy dance sequences in eye-popping costumes.  Jonas Ã…kerlund, who has worked with both Lady Gaga and Madonna, directed the video shoot in Los Angeles.

It's hard to figure out if Britney Spears is having her knock-down drag-out fist-fight with Lady Gaga or herself, but the girl-fight special effects in the video totally rock!

"There's so many people out there competing in this world to be the queen of pop, and she's definitely claiming her throne," declared Britney's choreographer, Brian Friedman.

Taking back the pop throne from Lady Gaga is not that difficult.  With this new video, Britney has.  It is the video of 2011, hands-down.

Of course the #1 California blog would be assumed to side with Britney Spears, the Californian, but her new song really is much better than Gaga's goo-goo.

Britney Spears' video for "Hold It Against Me" is superb.  Very high-tech, very apocalyptic, very beautiful, and very, very L.A.

Britney Spears is BACK and slapping Lady Gaga back across the Hudson --- and I can almost hear Madonna cheering Britney on.  Chalk one up for California, dude.

Key to Business Success

February 16, 2011

For successful business leaders today, success means overcoming bigger obstacles, increased competition, unprecedented regulations and personal limitations.

Doing business is challenging today, but the potential payoffs are tremendous.  Many businesses have effectively changed thoughts, perceptions, hearts and minds universally.  Our modern world is a more efficient place because of fearless business people.

Business leaders continue to step up to the plate, create value and innovate the future.  The most successful businessmen and businesswomen today are leaders who think so far 'outside of the box' that the box itself has become irrelevant.

Are You A Business Leader?

A recent Harris Interactive survey of people ages 45-54 revealed whom they deem to be most persuasive in the eyes of the public:
  • Business Leaders 38-percent
  • Athletes 20-percent
  • Musicians 17-percent
  • Actors 15-percent
  • Former Politicians 9-percent
Obviously, many middle-aged adults believe that business leaders know a thing or two about life.  Maybe it's because business people are used to meeting a bottom-line every day.  They turn dreams and ideas into products and services that benefit humanity.

How do you stack up as a business leader?  Are you persuasive, productive, organized, efficient, profitable and authentic?  None of us are perfect.  We could all use a few business tips and reminders from time to time.

Read further and see if there's a key you can use to make your successful business journey more substantial and meaningful.

How Persuasive Are You?

Your ability to persuade determines how effective you are as a leader.

Most highly-successful people have developed the ability to persuade others to act on their behalf by sticking to four vital principles:
  1. Show confidence in what you say and do.  Present yourself, your vision and your requests with absolute confidence.  Know what and how you want to communicate, then effectively get to the point without all the foo-foo.
  2. Set an example by your behavior.  10-percent of communication is verbal, and 90-percent is all about what others sense and see.  What you do, how you do it, and why you do it all speak more loudly than the blah-blah-blah.
  3. Communicate your belief.  The WHY is crucial.  The purposes and values of what you're presenting matter to the minds you are addressing.  People want to BELIEVE in whoever and whatever they cooperate with.
  4. Exude your own happiness.  Communicate fullness, strength and what turns you on.  Let others see that you accept yourself as you are and that you've discovered your role in life.  Happiness attracts, persuades and motivates.
How Productive Are You?
  • Make your goals clear.  Clarity is crucial to achieving your goals.  If you're not making the progress that you're capable of making, it's because your goals aren't defined clearly.
  • Decide what's important and what's not.  Develop the art of getting things done and leaving things undone.  Wise is the businessperson who eliminates the non-essentials.
  • Value yourself.  When you value yourself, you'll value your time.  When you value your time, you'll do something great with it.  When you do something great, it increases your value.
What Others Want To Know About You
  • "How much do you care about me?"  Folks can tell if you really care or if you just want their money.  Real concern creates connection, communication, interaction and relationship.
  • "How can you really help me?"  Don't overwhelm people with all the features of your product or service.  To be persuasive, focus on the benefits.  All features must translate into benefits.
  • "How far can I really trust you?"  Today, many businesses aim to keep customers off-balance, skeptical and suspicious.  Why is that when trust is vital to business and life itself?  Trust creates lifelong clients.
How Organized Are You?

Using excuses like "creative genius at work", "it will get done eventually" or "I know where everything is in those piles" to justify clutter and disorganization of time and materials?  Totally lame.  Becoming organized is easy with these simple tips:
  • Set mini-goals.  Baby steps.  Get one thing done and momentum will build toward the next accomplishment.
  • De-clutter your work environment.  Lose the distraction of unnecessary stuff that visually screams for attention.
  • Don't trust your memory with everything.  Your brain gets full and forgets, so write important stuff down.
  • Purge outdated, unnecessary and useless files.  Keep things clean, simple, optimized, productive and profitable.
  • Plan phone calls in advance.  Write down questions and have materials ready before you dial those numbers.
  • Set time limits.  Say "I've only got seven minutes to talk", then get to the most important issues and solutions.
Words From The Wise
  • "The key to change is to let go of fear." - Roseanne Cash
  • "People cannot be managed.  Inventories can be managed, but people must be led." - Ross Perot
  • "Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things." - Peter Drucker
  • "Success is to be measured not so much by the position one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome while trying to succeed." - Booker T. Washington
  • "The best leader is one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint to keep from meddling with them while they do it." - Theodore Roosevelt
I certainly won't dare to say it better, so I'll let such great words sink in and wish you the best in your business endeavors.  Embrace your business success and share the key you've turned.

Mid Life Crisis, Dude!

February 13, 2011

Are you having a mid life crisis?  I think so.  Middle age has you feeling discontented as time quickly slips through your fingers like sand.

How do I know?

I'm YOU.  Well, at least the 18-year-old you.  Hello again.

I realize that it's difficult to recognize me in the mirror when the reflection looks more like your parent than your young adult self but, yes, it's really me --- and it's really you.

I'm still a rebellious, risk-taking idealist who forces a confrontation, so I'll just come out and say it:

You need to stop, dude, seriously.

Haven't there been enough relationships, dramas, failures, regrets and disillusions?  Give it up and let go.

Hasn't enough time already been stolen?

I want to live again and YOU are holding me back.

Your 18-year-old self has not gone away.  I'm still right here.  You've simply added more years and emotional baggage to your life --- TO MY LIFE.

I'm tired of carrying you, bro.

Here's your chance to look into a different mirror and face me once more.  Click PLAY on the video below and look me in the eye again.

Don't get stuck in some fleeting mid life crisis, man, 'cause there's a lot I wanna see and do.

I'm still 18 and too young for you to hold me back.

No loitering, dude.

Don't let a good thing go to waste.

"California Gurls" James Blunt

"California Gurls" is a 2011 rendition of the Katy Perry megahit California song by singer/songwriter James Blunt.

Blunt, an award-winning British performer, now has a home and recording studio in Los Angeles, so he's surrounded with real California girls these days.

James Blunt's LIVE performance of "California Gurls" authentically represents the sound he is well-known for --- folkish, sensitive, and expressed very well.

I would venture to say that Blunt's version is more mature, richer, and more pleasing to listeners over 30 years of age.

His version of "California Gurls" honors and compliments the SONGWRITER, and I love the Adult Contemporary feel.

Blunt does a spectacular job in his onstage performance of a cheesy-yet-successful pop tune --- which he resurrects into one of the great songs about California.

It really belongs on a James Blunt album, honestly, and fans agree.

Check out the video below and enjoy a rare performance of one of the biggest --- and now best --- California songs ever performed.

"San Jose" Dionne Warwick

"Do You Know the Way to San Jose" is a 1968 pop California song by singer Dionne Warwick, written by composer Burt Bacharach and lyricist Hal David.

The famous California song about the city of San Jose was released as a single in April 1968 and became Dionne Warwick's biggest global hit, reaching the Top-10 in many nations around the world.

Dionne Warwick won her first Grammy for "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" --- Best Female Contemporary Pop Vocal Performance.

Recorded at Bell Studios in NYC, the highly successful recording was engineered by the legendary Ed Smith.

Burt Bacharach's music and Hal David's lyrics tell the story of a San Jose, California native who, after failing to break into the fiercely competitive L.A. entertainment industry, wants to go back to her Bay Area hometown.

By now, the whole universe knows the way to San Jose, considering that it's the Capitol of Silicon Valley and the third-largest city in the state of California.

You know, I should buy a zillion acres of dirt in the middle of the Golden State and name it Californiality, CA.  Then, I could write a song called "Do You Know the Way to Californiality".  The world would come flocking.  Yeah, I should work on that.

In the meantime, check out "Do You Know the Way to San Jose" by the legendary Dionne Warwick, one of the all-time greatest songs about California.

Schwarzenegger is BACK!

February 11, 2011

Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Golden Globe-winning actor, is through with Sacramento and back in Hollywood for good.

Schwarzenegger is back for the Oscar.

After a lifetime as Mr. Olympia, Mr. Universe, The Austrian Oak, Conan The Barbarian, The Terminator and The Governator, well, it would just be nice to have that little gold statue.

Now that Hollywood's highest paid actor is back in town, Schwarzenegger will have to 'stretch' his acting skills into a complex, juicy role to be Oscar-worthy in Hollywood these days.

I mean, Arnold can NOT just pick up some weights, a sword, or a machine gun and recycle old one-liners like "Hasta la vista, baby" and wow the Academy.  No!

Today's Tinseltown is different.  An actor must be willing to portray anything and anyone --- and the weirder the better, babe.

If Arnold Schwarzenegger wants his Hollywood peers to "really, really like" him, he's got to throw the 'macho' thing out with his ego and start to really HUSTLE.

If Arnold is willing to play a handicapped lesbian liberal Wicca vegan animal rights activist who dies while saving the environment 'for the children', he will definitely be on Oscar's short list in 2012.

You get the picture.  I just hope Arnold does.

That old 'shortcut' of doing nude scenes doesn't exactly work for senior citizens.  Don't go there, Arnold!

Schwarzenegger must go deeper as an actor.  He must transform, transcend and transport.  Tickets at the box office cost double what they did in Arnold's heyday.  Movie-goers expect a lot more today.

"Extreme fighting and shooting isn't possible for me anymore.  In the future I'll need to pick my roles according to my age," says Schwarzenegger.

At 64 years of age this summer, Arnold Schwarzenegger might be better-off picking a tear-jerking role as his ticket to Oscarland.

Make folks cry, dude, and you'll totally nail that gold statuette.  Holding a crippled puppy will get you the Lifetime Achievement Award.

I'm just sayin'.

Whichever acting role Schwarzenegger chooses, the big bucks will certainly follow.  Arnold has turned the name SCHWARZENEGGER into a total brand name.

When Arnold Schwarzenegger talks, Hollywood is sure to listen.

Ronald Reaganlaan at The Hague

February 7, 2011

Ronald Reagan will have his own boulevard in The International City of Peace and Justice, The Hague, in the Netherlands.

Last month, the VVD Municipal Party in The Hague requested that one of the Dutch city's streets be named after Reagan in honor of the world leader's birthday centennial.

The VVD argued that President Reagan was a major player in negotiating peace with the Soviet Union, leading to the end of the Cold War.

The D66 Party, PvdA Party and Green Left Party, however, felt that it was controversial and inappropriate, objecting that a street named after Reagan would tarnish the image of The Hague as a city of peace and justice.

The street, to be renamed the Ronald Reaganlaan, will be in the international section of The Hague.

VVD faction representative Boudewijn Revis is pleased with the hard-won decision for the new Reaganlaan.

"It's a wise decision to permanently commemorate this great man in the International City of Peace and Justice," Revis stated.

Jane Harman Quits Congress

California Rep. Jane Harman (D) has given notice of her resignation from Congress in an announcement that will trigger a special election in Los Angeles County.

Upon leaving her position representing California in the U.S. House of Representatives, Jane Harmon will take on new duties as director of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, a nonpartisan Washington think tank which studies international relations and publishes the Wilson Quarterly.

Harman, 65 , was a 1998 candidate for California governor and was first elected to represent Southern California's 36th congressional district in 1992.

Jane Harman's resignation from Congress is surprising to many Democrats but not to Nancy Pelosi.  The House Minority Leader and fellow Californian knew of Harman's planned resignation a while ago.

California Governor Jerry Brown will call the special election which must be held between 112 and 126 days after the vacancy is declared, according to California election law.

The election will be the first big test of California's new Open Primary law where all candidates will run against one another, regardless of political party.

Jane Harman, who represents a Democrat-traditional 36th district in coastal L.A. County, has been a voice for Democrats on homeland security and intelligence issues.

"This is an excruciating decision because the distinction of representing the smartest constituents on earth will never be surpassed," declared Congresswoman Jane Harman.

Christina Aguilera National Anthem

February 6, 2011

Christina Aguilera sang the national anthem, "The Star Spangled Banner", at Super Bowl XLV today, wowing a worldwide audience --- but forgetting a few words to the song.

Oh, well.  No biggie, really, but media outlets are trying to turn it into a big story.  I think Christina did a fantastic job singing our national anthem.  Very soulful and powerful.

The Southern California singer was surely jet-lagged after flying to Texas to perform for the Super Bowl game, but the Burlesque star still managed to prove why she remains on top after 13 years.

#1 California Poem on the Internet Exclusively on Californiality.com

"I AM CALIFORNIA"

I am the creative genesis persisting amid chaos; the idea made manifest.

I am the eternal state of "becoming".

Ever changing, morphing and mutating, my essence reflects the mind of my Creator.

Purity, perfection and productivity are my principles.

I am innovation; the perennially new. I am relentless forward momentum.

I am the unity of the spiritual, the mental and the physical. I am symmetry and balance.

I am the created who recreates; the blessed who blesses; the beloved who loves without prejudice.

I am expression; the vision seen; the voice heard; the thought interpreted.

Races, religions and cultures are my colors, hues and shades. Variety is my lifeblood.

I am the portrait of humanity which beckons an impassioned brush stroke from every hand.

I am relationship; always conversing, sharing, belonging, reciprocating, accepting and providing.

I am contrary; an oasis in the desert; order from chaos; beauty from ashes; hope from despair; unity from diversity; light from darkness.

I am information, communication, technology and intelligence always seeking Wisdom.

Ever the student of the Eternal, I instruct willing minds through my failures and successes.

I am the experience; the be-in; the adventure; the journey; the trip. I am interactivity and participation.

I am the ultimate; the zenith; the apex; the extreme; the max. Limitless minds are my companions into the timeless unknown.

I am to be merged with; not to simply be admired from afar. My visions are to be shared; my dreams are to be realized; my desires are to be consummated.

I am the fruit of ambition, effort and achievement. I am the rarest wine to be tasted, savored and thoroughly enjoyed, not merely collected.

Golden, priceless and breathtaking, I am the star-studded dream, the quaking vision, and the imagination on fire.

I am California.
