Jun 15, 2012

Actress Yvette Wilson has died of cervical cancer at age 48, as fans mourn the star of "Moesha," "The Parkers," "Thea," Friday, Poetic Justice, Def Comedy Jam and the House Party films.

Yvette Wilson had suffered with stage 4 cervical cancer and battled kidney failure, undergoing kidney transplant surgeries.

A San Jose State University alumnus and California native from Los Angeles, Wilson enjoyed widespread popularity as a stand-up comedian, a television star and a Hollywood movie star.

Yvette Wilson's industry colleague and loyal friend, cancer survivor Jeffrey Pittle, gave the actress not only emotional support, but he organized a successful fundraiser to help with her cancer treatment expenses after she could no longer accept acting offers.

"I met Yvette through work, and her spark of creativity was unmatched," said Pittle.

"Our experiences with cancers gave us a special bond, and I am proud to have been able to lend her support emotionally, as well as financially through the fundraiser I held.  I only wish I could have done more."

"She was a good friend, a talented actress and a very funny lady, both onscreen and off," Jeffrey Pittle added.

"She will be sorely missed, but I'm sure her talent and humor will live on in her legion of fans. It's a small comfort knowing we can still experience Yvette through the work she left behind."

Countless entertainment industry professionals have hit Facebook, Twitter and other websites to express thoughts, prayers, memories and eulogies after the death of Yvette Wilson, who was loved by fans and respected by colleagues.
