Democratic Party Gay Marriage Platform
Jul 19, 2012
California Democrats are demanding the Democratic Party include gay marriage on its convention platform, with Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer leading the call for the LGBT agenda.
30 of the 34 delegates back the initiative for the gay marriage platform, and their support is being expressed in a letter sent to the Democratic Party Platform Drafting Committee, asking for a same-sex marriage platform plank.
The California congressional delegation is piggybacking Barack Obama's support for gay marriage in hopes of making the Democratic Party the Gay Party while calling for the elimination of the Defense of Marriage Act.
"We came here to do a job for the American people, not to hold a job," said Nancy Pelosi, who has represented San Francisco in Congress for the past quarter century.Support for homosexual or lesbian marriage has never been included in the Democratic Party platform.
Now liberal Californians on Capitol Hill want gay marriage politically placed on the national platform, regardless of how many registered Democrats are opposed to it.
- The Democratic National Committee will hold a national hearing on proposals for the platform July 27-29 in Minneapolis.
- The full platform committee will vote on a proposal August 10-12 in Detroit.
- The DNC votes on its platform September 3-6 at the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte.
