The title track from Best Coast's second album, The Only Place, the song is a musical tribute to the Golden State composed by songwriter Bethany Cosentino, the lead vocalist.
"It comes from a point of view of being very homesick and feeling like my feelings were all over the place because of the fact that I was so busy and scatterbrained and traveling all the time," said Cosentino.
"The Only Place" was produced by multi-instrumentalist Jon Brion, and the official music video (below) was directed by Ace Norton.
Describing native Californians as "born with sun in our teeth and in our hair," the song highlights the mountains, birds, ocean, trees, sun, fun, beaches, waves and babes of the Golden State in the spirit of fun.
Why would you live anywhere else?
The song makes California look and sound cool because California is cool.
"The Only Place" by Best Coast is one of the most enjoyable songs about California this year, and one which will finally put this great L.A. band on the global map.
