Zsa Zsa Gabor's 96th Birthday

Feb 6, 2013

Zsa Zsa Gabor celebrates her 96th birthday today and the reigning Queen of Bel-Air remains firmly on her glamorous throne.

Zsa Zsa Gabor, the star of Hollywood, Broadway, TV and cop-slapping, may be 96 years old today, but the actress and socialite is still the "Diva of Diamonds and Dahlings."

It has been a long road for Zsa Zsa since being crowned Miss Hungary and then heading west to take Hollywood by storm.

The unmitigated star has never let obstacles stand in her way and the same is true today.  Zsa Zsa may be one year closer to the century mark but she's facing her 96th birthday head-on with style.

The lone survivor of the famous Gabor Sisters, Zsa Zsa almost seems eternal, like a goddess of glamor oozing Euro-Californiality and sparkling decadence.

Perched atop a hill overlooking stunning Bel-Air, Zsa Zsa Gabor glances back over the last 96 years of her life from inside a French mansion originally built for California billionaire Howard Hughes.

One of the biggest generators of celebrity gossip in Hollywood history, Zsa Zsa has been there, done that, and seen it all "with a wardrobe to die for, dahling!"

Dripping with diamonds, dreams and divorces, Zsa Zsa has famously stated, "One lifetime is not enough."  Her free-spirited attitude and ironic disregard for wealth run contrary to her famous public image.

On Zsa Zsa Gabor's 96th birthday, the time has come to know who the real Zsa Zsa is.

Zsa Zsa never really wanted to be a socialite, a fashion icon, a glamorous diva or a tabloid celebrity at all.  Her mother and her sisters all wanted a wild Hollywood life, but not Zsa Zsa.

What Miss Gabor wanted more than anything was to be a COMEDIAN for a living.  A tomboy and feminist at heart, Zsa Zsa just wanted to make people laugh, not parade around like a Barbie doll.

After barely escaping the Nazis in Europe, her new California life handed her lemons.  Zsa Zsa simply made lemonade, though poured over diamonds instead of ice.

Her puns, her famous quotations and the books she wrote are all funny --- side-splitting in fact.  Why else would her private friends include Lucille Ball and Phyllis Diller?  She wanted a life like theirs.

Does anyone really get the life they want?  Maybe, but not exactly the way they want it.  Somehow, though, Zsa Zsa became a comedian in her own way.

Life has many strange twists and turns, and Zsa Zsa Gabor's life is no exception, but the Hollywood legend keeps going at 96 years of age with shocking endurance.

After all the laughs at her expense, the non-stop ridicule, the failed marriages, and all the insults hurled at immigrant "foreigners,"  Zsa Zsa Gabor still perseveres today.

Without her eccentric way of looking at life and her faithful sense of humor, she might have been dead years ago.  On her 96th birthday, Zsa Zsa Gabor is very much alive and completely unconcerned with wealth, fame or power.

She just wants to see what will happen next.  What surprise will be next, dahling?

Don't be surprised if the next time you see Zsa Zsa Gabor she's wearing high-heeled sneakers and a wig-hat on her head.  Don't know what I'm talking about?  Watch her classic rap music video below.

Happy Birthday, Zsa Zsa!
